Learn what DAV Chapter 21 has been doing for the past 50 years.
See their faces and learn who they are.
Clyde Seiler Chapter 21 Disabled American Veterans was chartered in Aurora, CO in 1973. The Chapter was named in honor of Major Clyde Seiler a member of the Colorado National Guard who was killed in action on March 27,1969, when the F-100 aircraft he was piloting was shot down over Vietnam.
Chapter 21 operated at various locations in Aurora until 1992 when the Chapter purchased the site at 8720 E Colfax Ave., Denver, CO. In February 2011 a fire seriously damaged the building; however, after extensive repairs and remodeling we rededicated the building in January 2012 enabling us to continue our support of DAV's mission of assisting disabled veterans and their families. In July of 2024, the Chapter purchased our new facility at 14100 E. Evans Ave in Aurora, CO. We are currently renovating that location and expect to hold our first meeting in our new Chapter home in early 2025.
The Chapter's membership exceeds 2,125 and the Chapter is supported by an active Auxiliary Unit. Chapter 21 is an active organization with members devoting their time and efforts toward veterans' activities throughout the Denver metro area.
The Chapter is the third largest DAV Chapter in Colorado and has donated tens of thousands of dollars to veterans and civic causes. The Chapter hosted the hospitality room at the annual Department of Colorado Convention for years and has had members serving in Department positions including Commander.
For years we have host an annual Chapter picnic and Christmas parties for children and adults. The Auxiliary supports numerous programs either individually or jointly with the Chapter which benefit veterans throughout the Denver metro area.
Chapter 21 derives income to support our mission from donations and grants and by leasing portions of our Chapter home to nonprofit groups and small businesses.
The original Chapter 21's Charter pictured to the right hangs in the main hall at our Chapter Home.
Following the fire, the building was uninhabitable because of fire damage and asbestos contamination. The fire caused extensive damage to the second floor and cause water damage on portions of the first floor and smoke damage throughout the building. Following asbestos remediation, much of the furniture and other Chapter items had to be disposed of, and items that could be salvaged were removed and stored to enable reconstruction to proceed.
The second floor was gutted, the hole in the roof was repaired, and reconstruction began. The second floor was reconstructed into office spaces to be leased to private tenants. The first floor was renovated to enable more efficient utilization of the meeting hall, with new storage cabinets and serving counters installed. The basement was renovated and has been leased since 2012 to the Street Fraternity, to support their at-risk youth programs.
The Chapter redidicated the building during a ceremony on February 25, 2012. Although the fire created tremendous challenges for the Chapter, the reconstructed/renovated Chapter Home provides a comfortable and usable facility that enables Chapter 21 to continue its mission.
Clyde Seiler Chapter 21 Disabled American Veterans (DAV) was chartered on January 21, 1973, in Aurora, CO, and was named in honor of Major Clyde Seiler, Colorado Air National Guard’s first casualty of the Vietnam War.
Chapter 21 functioned in Aurora, CO until 1992 when our facility in Denver was purchased. The Chapter’s membership has grown from the original 32 Charter members to over 2,100 today, making it the third-largest Colorado DAV Chapter.
In February 2011, a fire seriously damaged the Chapter’s facility which could have been the end of Chapter 21. However, because of the willingness of the membership to have the Chapter survive, the building was reconstructed and remodeled into a superb facility to operate from.
In addition to being the Chapter’s home, portions of the building are occupied by organizations benefiting the local community including: The Street Fraternity, a nonprofit “at risk” youth assistance group; the Solomon Faith International providing ministry for the local community and a nonprofit consultant, and an attorney providing immigration assistance.
Chapter 21 has four Service Officers providing benefits assistance to veterans and their families. We offer a variety of benefits directly to veterans including food coupons, temporary housing, utility payments and durable medical equipment.
DAV Auxiliary Unit 21 was also chartered in 1973 and is comprised of veterans’ family members who support Chapter activities. Auxiliary members volunteer hours alongside Chapter members; they donate clothing and personal items to patients at veterans nursing homes and the VA regional hospital and have contributed thousands of dollars to programs and activities supporting veterans and their families.
We thank AC Flag and Banner, Littleton, CO for donating a new flagpole to the Chapter in 2021.

We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring the veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of america's injured heroes on Capital Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterns transitioning back to civilian life.
The mission is carried forward by:
- Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service andprovided by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA);
- Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically;
- Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the white House and judicial Branch, as well as state and local government:
- Extending DAV's mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters; and
- Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.
